Lagos Rail Mass Transit is a rapid transit system serving Lagos State, managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA). The private sector, under a concession contract, supplies the railway equipment including electric power, signals, rolling stock, and fare collection equipment. LAMATA sets the policy direction, regulation, and infrastructure for the network. Phase I of the Blue Line, the network’s first section, was initially slated for completion in 2011 but faced numerous delays due to funding issues and government changes. The Blue Line began operation on September 4, 2023, followed by the Red Line on February 29, 2024.
